Set in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, the Piedmont Residence is a modern lakefront retreat defined by long horizontal rooflines, expansive glazing, and a quiet alignment with its wooded setting. The home overlooks a mountain lake and distant ridgelines, creating a serene backdrop that shapes both the architecture and the daily experience of place. Low, cantilevered roof planes and dark vertical cladding ground the building to the site, while stone plinths tie the structure to the landscape with clarity and permanence.
The design organizes the home into three distinct yet connected pavilions: the Great Room, the Guest Suite, and the Master Suite. Each volume is oriented to capture views and daylight, linked by glass connectors that dissolve the boundary between interior and exterior. Deep overhangs frame the surrounding forest and temper the abundant natural light, creating comfortable, shaded terraces that extend living outdoors. Floor-to-ceiling windows open the home to breezes and reflections from the lake, reinforcing a continuous dialogue between shelter and nature.
Throughout, the architecture emphasizes calm, proportion, and material restraint. Light wood finishes, slender structural elements, and uninterrupted glazing create a space that feels both warm and weightless. A seamless circulation path moves residents from the public core of the home to more private wings, preserving openness while offering moments of retreat. The result is a modern mountain dwelling that enhances its setting through simplicity, precision, and an intimate connection to the landscape.
The Piedmont Residence distills modern mountain living to its essentials—strong lines, crafted materials, and expansive views held in balance with nature. Its quiet clarity and connection to the land define the home as a timeless retreat shaped by light, water, and the surrounding forest.
