Mountain Air Residence — Burnsville, NC
Cantilevered along the mountainside in the exclusive Mountain Air community near Burnsville, this 3,400-square-foot contemporary residence by Carlton Edwards was designed to capture uninterrupted views of the Blue Ridge Mountains while harmonizing with the rugged landscape. The one-room-deep floor plan ensures that every space—from living and dining to private guest quarters—opens directly to long-range vistas and seamless outdoor living. French doors and expansive decks extend the interiors outward, creating an elegant mountain retreat immersed in light, air, and ever-changing scenery.
The home’s refined details reflect both innovation and craftsmanship. Copper siding panels were pre-patinated for timeless character, cedar cladding softens the exterior, and steel i-beams anchor the structure securely to its mountain perch. A living green roof, geothermal heating, natural cross-ventilation, and double-pane windows deliver sustainable performance, earning the residence North Carolina Healthy Built Homes Silver Certification. Inside, a curated mix of custom wood paneling, Poggenpohl cabinetry, locally crafted windows and doors, and commissioned art pieces create warmth, texture, and distinction, celebrating a home uniquely tailored to both the owners and the mountain landscape.
Through our integrated design-build approach, we translated the homeowners’ vision into a residence that is both timeless and contemporary—uniting craftsmanship, site-sensitive design, and a thoughtful commitment to sustainability. The result is a refined yet welcoming retreat, uniquely expressive of its mountain setting and the lives lived within it.
